Argentinian artist and designer. Born in Buenos Aires and currently based in London.
I begin my work with a sense of the unknown and uncertainty. This developed
from the first moments of my understanding of the contradiction between
attraction and repulsion. This combination of feelings led me to my current
project and this work is the result of my experimentation and desire to interpret
this juxtaposition. My work is the channel of my expression and I am driven by
trying to provoke a strong reaction from the viewer.
My inspiration comes after I have started working with the mediums themselves
and is an organic process in nature. I begin with a kernel of an idea, building
generous layers of contrasting unrelated materials and create form with texture.
Time is key to the process, a single layer can take up to 2 weeks to formulate. I
never have a sense that any work is complete as another layer can always
represent further evolution of the piece.
The start of my creative process involves breaking the standard artistic mould.
Before I begin the actual painting process, I work with a variety of materials
including heavy duty domestic paint, white spirit and different mediums and
experimenting with unorthodox applications, for example combining oil and
acrylic based paints. I also experiment with irregular surfaces such as clear pvc,
and organza, as well as using unprimed canvas, which allows the medium
applied to fully penetrate the canvas. I enjoy using palette knives and the top of a
paintbrush as opposed to the bristles.
